Q: It states that can be used to protect from the dust with filter (not included). I have filters on hand. Will they function inside it?

Yes. As long as the cartridge has a diameter of 2 3/4 inches by 1 inch tall you should be good. You may also need the circular diaphragms that go under the cartridge.
